Contemporary Theory in Art Education

This course has prepared me with the knowledge of philosophy while gaining a better understanding of my personal philosophy. I also had  the opportunity to experience a pre student teaching practicum.

Art Ed 208 Practicum Experience

For my 208 teaching practicum I had the opportunity of co teaching in a intermediate/middle school working with 4th-8th graders. The practicum accumulated 30 hours of my time in the classroom over the semester. In my role I helped in aiding the teacher, observing teaching, and even co-teaching a lesson.

A requirement of the practicum was to instruct a 3-5 day lesson alongside a co-partner. we were tasked with writing a lesson, Preparations to teach, teaching, reflecting on the lesson with our cooperating teacher, and Evaluating student work. This experience was very beneficial as prior to to working in this classroom I had not had much experience with teaching at a middle school level. It helped me to develop an understanding for needs and interests of students that age as well as abilities.

Context for Learning

This information is general information regarding the district of my placement. This was used to help us as teachers understand our students, and surrounding better.

Planning

A requirement of the practicum was to create a 3-5 day long lesson. I co-taught a ceramic totem pole identity lesson.  We have created lesson plan to guide guide use as we teach. The lesson Plan also includes our plan for assessment in the way in which we plan to asses students.

Instructing

A requirement of the practicum was to also record ourselves as we taught in order to be a form of reflection as we learn from how we taught. Included is a video of segments of myself teaching. Note that all students included in this video have given permission to be recorded.

Assessment

A requirement of the practicum was to also asses three students artwork. This included a stronger student, a student with an IEP or 504, and a student who may need more assistance.

Feedback

After the practicum lesson has concluded our cooperating teacher provides feedback on how we performed and advice for future teaching.
